Rod Laver Arena and Australian Open tennis tournament management Incompetent or Incompetent or inconsiderate;
I have some very serious criticism for whoever is running the Rod Laver Arena the site of the Australian Open tennis tournament which just completed last night.
First a complement. After having been to Wimbledon two years ago Rod Laver is a much better layout with lots room for the 20,000 fans to enjoy.
On the downside, last night at the beginning of the match based on my professional opinion as a prior owner of an air-conditioning company and G.M. of three resorts for eight years I estimated the temperature within the arena was upwards of 30 to 33°.
When you're paying $200-$300 for a ticket I don't think you should have to endure a that of temperature especially when the management has the option of turning on the air-conditioning and make it comfortable for everyone including the players .
About an hour into the match one fan collapsed from the heat and had to taken out on a stretcher.
Shortly thereafter they turned on the air-conditioning but they left the roof open which meant we were air conditioning Melbourne. Talk about wasting energy.
I can only conclude that the management of the Rod Laver and Australian Open tennis tournament were either very stupid, very incompetent, or just trying to save a few extra bucks by not running the air conditioners.
Yes the roof open as it is a nice feature but it's better to be more comfortable while we endured dangerously high temperatures during the longest grand slam tennis match in history at five hours and 53 minutes.
Whether it was incompetence or just illogical thinking it was definitely wrong to keep the roof open and air-conditioner off in such dangerous conditions.
At one point I looked across at my neighbor and said “here we are complaining about heat think about Djokovic and Nadal who also had the lights on them and are exercising. They must be superheated.
I highly recommend that the Rod Laver Arena management and the Australian open management consider closing the roof and turning on air-conditioning as soon as the temperature reaches above 27° which is the maximum that most people feel comfortable based on my former profession as an air-conditioning company owner.
I encourage those of you that endured these conditions along with me last night to send an e-mail, tweet, blog or letters to the editors of the newspaper so this does not happenin the coming years
I also think that the lines people made more bad calls than I've ever seen at a professional tournament. It was bad enough to affect the results and must be improved.
ReplyDeleteAlso, interrupting a semi-fianl match of a grand slam for 10 minutes of fireworks is unprofessional, unfair to the players, and another sign of what a poor job they do of managing that tournament. They should delay the tournament a week or two so that the festivities preceed the tournament.
I'm still learning from you, as I'm trying to achieve my goals. I definitely love reading everything that is written on your blog.Keep the posts coming. I liked it!
